Every Unilux window starts with wood purchased directly from the country of origin adhering to either FSC or PEFC forestry standards. Unilux window profiles are laminated on site, before traveling to Germany. This method helps support local communities and their forestry industry. Wood species Alder, Larch, Scandanavian Pine, Oak and Meranti have been specifically chosen after rigorous testing determined them ideal based on hardness, rot resitance, thermal efficiency, fastener retention strength, ability to take a finish, workability and last but not least, beauty.
Tilt/turn windows open to the interior. Their unique operation results in a design very different from outswinging fenestration products. The hinge system of a Unilux tilt/turn makes for an extremely robust product, it is not unheard of to see a single operating sash upwards of 30 sq ft. Their cladding is thick, extruded material, attached in a sensible fashion. The cladding is offered in three different profiles---Living, Modern and Design line. There are no glues, tapes or caulkings used in manufacturing a Unilux window. The advantage of this type of system is longevity; no caulking to discolor or glazing tape to wither up in the sun. The window and doors seal via a gasket, located in three places. This EPDM gasket has a low steam permeability, good thermal resistance and possesses an extremely low brittleness temperature. Crafted in a small German village, Unilux has grown to be the market leading window and door manufacturer in Europe. Based
on the tilt/turn design platform, Unilux windows represent the finest in product quality, thermal performance
and design capabilities. Their product offering is vast; five different wood species, three different exterior profiles
and countless glazing options. They manufacture a spectacular, fully customizable wood facade system capable of hitting
passivhaus performance numbers.
Something unique to Unilux is every window and door is pre-finished at the factory using an environmentally friendly
four-phase water-based process. Different finish offerings, specifically designed for each particular
wood species, both protect and enhance the wood's natural character. The result is a finished
product of exemplary furniture grade quality. Installing pre-finished windows comes with the advantage of helping
protect them during the construction process, and ensures moisture never has an opportunity to infiltrate the wood.
